Japan’s First Cyclone in Action

September 2012, After the Fukushima nuclear power plant accident in Japan, caused by the earthquake and following tsunami on March 11, 2011, a strong need for environmental decontamination of paved roads and hard surfaces in Fukushima was needed to allow residents to one day return to their homes.

The cleaning capability of the CY5000 to reduce radiation levels was proven by specialized authority to be used for decontamination work. The Cyclone cleaning system can clean the road consistently 10 times faster than a manual operation of high pressure washers and vacuum cleaners conducted through a manual operation. Most of the fleet of over 20 Cyclone CY5000 cleaning systems will be responsible for decontaminating over 600 kilometers of asphalt and hard surface roadways that must be cleaned over the course of 2-3 years. The recovered waste water will be processed to ensure that condensed dirt that contains radioactive substances is carefully treated in special areas and disposed of properly.
